Love and Hate Tag!

Why hello there! 🙂

I was nominated by the lovely heyEHREN (if you haven’t subscribed to her yet, you definitely should!) to do the Love and Hate Tag, so I thought it would be a nice change of pace to switch it up and do something non-beauty related and get to know me a little bit! But don’t worry, though, I’ll be back soon with another makeup post!

So, here are the rules!

Share 10 things you love, and 10 things you hate, then tag up to 10 other bloggers!

Pretty simple, huh? 😉 Let’s get started! (And let’s do the hate’s first so we can end on a happy note!)

*And I’ll just go ahead and not include makeup because I think that’s a given at this point. 🙂

10 Things I Hate

1.) Rude, Hateful, Judgmental, and/or Self-Absorbed People – I am a happy, joyful person (most of the time, haha), so I honestly can’t understand the mindset of people who are initially rude or just not nice. Why spread hate when you can spread love? Everyone will be much happier as a result, and who knows? Maybe the person you just made a snide remark about was having a horrible day? It’s not necessary, and it just hurts. So spread the love. 🙂

2.) Exercise that feels like exercise – Don’t get me wrong. I know exercise is necessary, and when I find an exercise that I LOVE (ahem, Zumba), I feel SO much better and accomplished after doing it. BUT, in my pursuit of finding fun exercise, I find exercises that just make me feel like I’m doing exercise, and I need distraction or I won’t do it. Like running? No. Weight Lifting? No. Dancing like a bafoon? Yes. 😉

3.) Waking Up or Just Being Up in the Morning – I. Don’t. Do. Mornings. If you wake me up before 10, don’t expect me to be functional and/or happy-cheery. That’s why high school was so horrible for me. My alarm went off at 7, then 7:05, then 7:10…

4.) Seeing People Alone or Being Made Fun of – My heart physically aches for those who get bullied because they may not necessarily be “normal”. That’s a big reason why I’m going into Speech Pathology – so I can help children with speech impediments overcome their issue.

5.) Scary Movies – Nope. Nope. Nope. I don’t do them. Nope.

6.) Being Cold – I am cold most of the time, and I absolutely hate it. It ruins my whole mood.

7.) Condiments – I am probably the pickiest eater in the world. I’ll spare you my hate list by just telling you the stuff I DO like: cheese, barbeque sauce, lettuce, and spinach. Yup. I’m very plain. 🙂

8.) My Allergies – I’m allergic to basically everything under the sun, including dogs. 😦 That definitely doesn’t stop me from having them, though! At least it’s not food allergies. That would suck. I take bi-weekly allergy shots and an allergy pill every morning, and that usually makes it tolerable. 🙂

9.) Change – I don’t do well with change. I like routine and comfort, so major changes in my life set me off.

10.) Crying Babies in Quiet Places (and parents that don’t deal with it accordingly) – I know it’s probably irrational, but I just have such an intolerance to crying babies in church, a movie theater, anywhere that’s supposed to be quiet. I know, the gift of life or whatever. 😉

And now,

10 Things I Love

1.) God – My faith is very important to me, and I’m a strong believer that He is with me wherever I go.

2.) Music – If you were to pick any given time from 3:30-10 pm during my high school years, I would’ve been in some sort of rehearsal. I was in Marching Band, Jazz Band, Madrigals (a cappella group), and my school’s Drama Club. Music makes me feel things that no other medium can make me feel, and I am completely in love with it. I sing in the shower, in the car, in the hallway, probably when I’m sleeping: really anywhere! In case you were wondering, I will be attaching pictures. 😉

My last year in Madrigals

Playing Mary Bailey in “It’s a Wonderful Life”

Last Band show ever 😦

3.) Shopping – Whenever I’m feeling down or bored, I just go down to my local mall and window shop (If I were to actually shop, I would have been in debt a long time ago) and make a wish list in my mind of things I want to buy when I go shopping. There’s just something spectacular about coming home with arms full of bags. I can’t explain it. It’s just therapeutic. 😉

4.) Dogs – I think that dogs are literally the most perfect creatures that God put on this Earth. They are ALWAYS happy to see, never get mad at you, always cheer you up, and not to mention, they’re sooooooooo adorable. I have three dogs, and I miss them a TON right now. Adopt, don’t shop. 🙂

Odie, Loki, and Kiki

5.) Netflix – I know, I know. Call me a white girl, I just can’t help it! Seasons upon seasons of quality shows at your disposal is God’s gift to the world! My current favorites are GREY’S ANATOMY (I looove anatomy and medicine-type stuff, plus I love the whole “romantic” side to it), The Office, and How I Met Your Mother.

6.) Rom-Coms – I am SUCH a huge fan of romantic comedies. I’m a very happy person, so I love a good movie that can make me laugh, plus I’m the biggest sap you’ll ever meet (I squeal whenever my two favorite characters get together – It’s like the happiest moment!). I’d have to say my favorite rom-com has to be 27 Dresses. Katherine Heigl is everything.

7.) Tea – For me, one of the greatest pleasures in life is UNSWEET tea (sorry, southerners ;)). A nice cup of English Breakfast in the wintertime makes me so happy. I LOVE the warm and fuzzy hug that you get inside when you drink hot tea. And I get unsweet tea at practically every meal: no calories, refreshing, and it’s got a tad more taste than water. I guess I picked this up from my family where sweet tea is forbidden. 😉

8.) Disney Movies – It’s no secret – I’m actually a 5 year old stuck in an 18 year old’s body. Hearing the Disney castle opening theme to any Disney movie just takes me back to my childhood and just ignites that happy gut feeling that you get from pure happiness. Anyone else get that? Just me? Okay. 😉

They’re just timeless and make me feel like a kid again. I would rather watch Frozen over a rated R movie ANY day. And that way, I can watch movies with my kids without being bored!

9.) The Smell of Citrus and Cake Batter – That’s really random, but these are my two FAVORITE smells in the entire world. Peach, Orange, Apricot, Grapefruit, what have you, are just to DIE for. And CAN WE TALK ABOUT THE NYX MATTE LIP CREAMS? I literally sit down at my vanity just to smell them. The cake batter smell just gets me every. single. time.

10.) The Color Burgundy – I don’t know what it is about this reddish-purpleish-brown shade, but I gravitate towards anything and everything burgundy. I guess it goes really well with my hair and eye color (brown), and it’s just my color. I LURVE it!

And I’ll tag anyone who wants to do this tag on their blog (so I guess that’s like 30…oh well!)

Alright, guys! Thank you so much for reading this Love and Hate Tag! If you’ve got any more personal questions for me, let me know down in the comments! I hope you’re having a wonderful day! Keep strong, be kind, and stay beautiful. 🙂

BECCA Highlighters: Which format is right for you?

Hello there, lovelies! How we doing? 🙂

If you haven’t been living under a rock for the past few years, I’m sure you’ve heard of Becca and their fabulous highlighter range. Jaclyn Hill really popularized them on her YouTube channel, and even collaborated with Becca to make her own highlight (which is gorgeous, if I might add).

Becca’s highlights come in three different formats: the original Shimmering Skin Perfector (a liquid), SSP Pressed (a powder), and the SSP Poured (a cream, almost putty-type texture). It also may be kind of difficult to pick which one you would want to buy at first, and that’s where I’m here to help! I’m going to describe all three formats and hopefully highlight (hehehe 🙂 ) which one best fits your needs!

1.) Shimmering Skin Perfector in Opal, $41,

I got this as a sample with an order I placed from Sephora in the shade Opal. It has a smooth, liquidy texture, and let me tell you, if you want a subtle, glowy, highlight, then this is EXACTLY what you need! What I like to do with this is squirt just a tad on the back of my hand, smooth it out, and then take my e.l.f. Small Stipple Brush (thank you, emilynoel83 :)) and stipple it on my cheekbones. If you don’t want a va-va-voom, in your face highlight, but rather a subtle, but noticeable glow, then this is PERFECT for you! I think this looks absolutely gorgeous as an every-day highlight and would be ideal for every woman! You can’t go wrong with the original Shimmering Skin Perfector!

*Another thing that I’ve seen other beauty bloggers do is mix this in with their foundation to convert it to a more glowy, luminous finish. This works wonderfully because there’s no noticeable glitter in it. I tested this out with my L’oreal Infallible Pro-Matte, and I noticed a significant difference in the glow that it had with the SSP.

2.) Shimmering Skin Perfector Poured in Moonstone, $38,

The best way I can think of to describe this is a “silly putty” texture. It’s super creamy, and gives a lot of pigment, but in my opinion, there’s something a little…off about it. Whenever I swatch it on my hand, it takes a little bit of work to smooth it out so all of the pigment is equally distributed. And even worse, when I tried to spread this out on my cheekbones, it looks really patchy, almost iridescent.

It still gives a nice finish (when it spreads evenly), but I just can’t find a use this for this in my daily routine because of its finicky texture. I’d say in terms of subtlety, it’s between the SSP original and the SSP Pressed. I’m going to have to pass on this one. Let me know if it worked for you down in the comments, however!

3.) Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed in Champagne Pop, $38,

Ahhhhh, Champagne Pop. Literally what a dream come true for my favorite YouTuber, Jaclyn Hill! She created this highlight shade in collaboration with BECCA, and I could not be more happy with the result. The texture is to DIE for – SUPER creamy for a powder and pigmented through and through! I was a little skeptical at first glance of the swatch online because I thought I saw visible glitter, but I really had nothing to worry about! If you zoom in 100x on your face, you can probably see little specks of glitter, but really, the shimmer is what takes over on your cheekbones.

This is definitely a VA-VA-VOOM highlight, so if that’s not what you’re after, maybe look at the original SSP and buy an e.l.f. Small Stipple Brush, but I personally love it! I mean, depending on how much you apply, it’s not going to make you look like a disco ball (no worries!), but it definitely has that potential if that’s what you want. But my goodness, this is TOTALLY worth the $38 because you only need the littlest bit to get a highlighted effect. Superb job, Jaclyn!

Well, there you go! Hopefully I’ve given you worthwhile advice about which highlight format is the best for you! What’s your favorite highlight? Should I try out any from the drugstore? Leave me a comment down below and let me know! Keep strong, be kind, and stay beautiful. 🙂

See you soon, lovelies!

Review: Physicians Formula Nude Wear Collection

Hello there! How’s your day going? 😉

I recently purchased this foundation from Physician’s Formula off of Ulta’s website in the hunt for the perfect summer foundation.

The Physicians Formula Touch of Glow Foundation can be found at Ulta and most drugstores for $14.99. It’s a bit of a steep price tag for the drugstore, but hey, it’s not as bad as Sephora, and a good foundation is ALWAYS worth the splurge to make sure all of your makeup looks perfect.

It comes with a pump (HALLELUJAH), and oh my goodness, could the packaging be any cuter? It has rose gold tones with a little bow on the cap, and it’s also very sturdy.

I’d say this foundation has buildable, medium coverage with a luminous to dewy finish. My oily friends, don’t be scared! As long as you set it with a light dusting of powder, it doesn’t look like an oil slick at all.

The thing that I absolutely adore about this foundation is that it pretty much looks like skin. It makes me glowing, not oily, and gooooorgeous, and that’s the goal of makeup, right? 😉 It pretty effectively covers up my pores and most redness that I may have as long as I build it up. As far as deeper redness/blemishes, I do have to go in with a concealer, but that is pretty typical as far as foundations are concerned.

As with a lot of foundations, it doesn’t last all day, but that’s not what it’s marketed for. If anyone has any miracle tips on how to make your foundation last all day, leave a comment down below because I’d love to know!

The one gripe I have with this product is that the shade range is a bit lackluster. From the Physicians Formula website, there’s only two shades (Light and Light/Medium), and the Light only works with my skin tone in the summer. In my opinion, it’s honestly too dark to be able to be labeled ‘light’, but in my case it works out. I would only be using this foundation in the summer anyway for a glowing, summery finish!

All in all, you should most DEFINITELY give this foundation a try! A little bit of a splurge, but you can always return it if you don’t like it/the shade isn’t right for you, and like I said previously, if you splurge on anything, you splurge on foundation.

Onto the concealer!

I’m absolutely in love with this. This is the Physicians Formula Nude Wear Touch of Glow Stick, and it retails for $12.99 at Ulta and various drugstores. Again, pretty expensive for a concealer, but if you’re willing to spend the money, it’s absolutely worth it.

It only comes in the one shade, Nude Glow, which is one of my complaints of this product. However, at least on my skin (which is pretty pale on the spectrum), it blends out so that it doesn’t look too dark. For the palest of the pale and medium-deep skin tones, you may want to steer clear of this. I definitely wish they would come out with more shades!

Again with the packaging. It’s like the daughter of the foundation with the same rose gold/bow lid and pick casing. It’s SO girly and I feel super fancy whenever I use it!

This concealer is in a solid stick format, and it’s a pretty fat stick, so it’s not as precise as an applicator would be for applying to the more difficult areas of the face. The coverage, like the foundation, is a buildable medium with a glowing finish, but it doesn’t accentuate your blemishes, surprisingly! It’s definitely not the BEST concealer for covering up blemishes (ahem, MAC Pro Longwear 😉 ), but for light skin discolorations, this concealer covers them up and makes your skin look glowing! It’s also great for covering up slight under-eye circles, providing you set them with a powder immediately afterwards because it WILL crease if you don’t.

I DEFINITELY recommend this line of base products for anyone with dry to combination-oily skin for a great, everyday, glowing foundation and concealer. It’s been one of my favorites this summer, and it was definitely worth the hefty price tag! What are your favorite foundations to wear in the summertime? Do you have any recommendations for future posts? Leave a comment down below and tell me ALL about it! I hope you’re having a wonderful day! Keep strong, be kind, and stay beautiful. 🙂

See you soon!

Dorm Room Tour!

Hello there, lovelies!

I’ve been incredibly busy because, as you might be able to tell from the title, I recently moved into my dorm room in Normal, Illinois. I’m attending Illinois State University studying Speech Pathology with a minor in Spanish. I’ve attended a couple meetings pertaining to my department and other campus opportunities, and I’ve gotta say, all of my worries and fears have been replaced with complete and utter excitement! I can’t wait to learn all there is to know about Speech Pathology and become everything God intended for me!

I live in a quad in Hewett Hall, a dorm for underclassmen. When I become a junior, I’ll have to move to an apartment, but for now, I’m absolutely loving dorm life! There’s three other people in my room besides me, and they are such sweethearts! Our dorm displays our individual styles, but it still all comes together to bring the cute and homey aspect into it! So, now I’ll show you my side of the room!

A loooooot of this stuff was purchased at Ikea, Target and Bed Bath and Beyond, the candy lands of college stuff! I think it’s super cozy, it reflects my style, and it reminds me a lot of home, even if home is only 45 minutes away. 🙂

I lofted my bed so I could fit my dresser and desk underneath, and believe me, in a room this small, you need all the space can you get! It’s enough room for me to climb up my bed without hitting my head, but it’s still tall enough to fit my desk and dresser underneath.

Here’s a look at my desk set-up! I got these three location canvases at Ikea, and they are the perfect addition to this otherwise lifeless wall!

And obviously, the most important part, the makeup collection! I got these acrylic containers at The Container Store. I got to customize my own little storage unit by buying the separate drawers and stacking them on top of each other.

My pictures are my favorite part about my side of the room. I took advantage of the 50% off photo sale at Walgreen’s and ordered about 150 pictures. Obsessive, you say? Probably. 😉

I stuck them on my wall with picture hanging “putty” that you can get at Target or Michael’s. The package is super cheap, too, and as long you use super small amounts of putty, an entire package will last you these 150 photos!

My view from my window. It’s absolutely GORGEOUS at nighttime.

One of my roommates is super into crafting, so we all took a trip to our local Hobby Lobby and got our initial to hang outside the door of our wardrobes! Obviously, mine consists of music, London, and Disney. 🙂

And, of course, I couldn’t forget to bring my practically perfect parrot-head umbrella for rainy days. 😉

Well, there you go! There’s a little peek at my dorm room! What is/was your favorite part about living in a dorm at your college? Any suggestions to make this room even more lively? Leave me a comment down below!

See you soon!

My Bridesmaid Makeup Picks!

Hello there, lovelies!

Sorry I haven’t posted this week! I’ve been doing lots of dorm shopping (look out for that soon 🙂 ), and it’s been really crazy! I move in next week to my dorm, and I’d appreciate some advice!

Anyway, about two weeks ago, my second oldest brother got married to his girlfriend of ten years, and with any wedding, makeup is one of my top priorities! So, a lot of preparation went into my makeup look for the wedding, especially because I was a bridesmaid! Here’s what I wore!

Smashbox Photo Finish Primer Water

Thank you, Jaclyn Hill, for once again prompting me to buy another thing from Sephora. 🙂 This is pretty unconventional as far as primers go because it’s a spray instead of a cream, but dang, it works. This would work wonderfully well for drier skin types because it’s particularly hydrating, but it still leaves a lot of tact on the skin for the foundation to stick to. And it doesn’t feel sticky, which is great!

Physicians Formula Touch of Glow Foundation in Light

I bought this foundation during the 40% off sale that Ulta had about two months ago, and I have been LOVING it! It has light-to-medium coverage and, like the name suggests, a dewy-glowy finish. It looks SO natural on the skin, and amazingly enough, it doesn’t look too oily in my T-zone. I have combination-oily skin, so this is really hard to find! I did set it with powder just because of my oiliness, but this is so great for foundation when you want to have a little more coverage than a BB Cream. The one thing I don’t like about this is that it only comes in three shades, and I’m only in the lightest shade in the summer, so I probably can’t use it in the winter. But I’ll probably be looking for a more matte foundation in the winter anyway. I’m obsessed!

Physicians Formula Nude Wear Touch of Glow Stick

Spoiler alert for my review coming soon…but this has become my holy grail concealer. Same with the foundation in that the shade leave a little to be desired, but it’s SOOO creamy! It blends in flawlessly to the skin even despite the odd shade, and again, it has that same glow to it that the foundation does. And can we talk about the packaging? SO adorable!

Bare Minerals Mineral Veil

I knew that I was going to be photographed a lot, so I needed something that wouldn’t leave a white cast in pictures like a white powder would. This has a beige tint to it, and I prefer loose powders anyway because I feel like they soak up my oils better than pressed powders, and this worked so well on wedding day. It’s a staple!

Urban Decay All-Nighter Setting Spray

You know me. I can’t do any look without this. It locks my makeup in place and gets rid of any cakey-ness that my powder might give me. It also feels great on hot summer days!

Clinique Cheek Pop in Ginger Pop

Oh, man. This is stunning. I got this about a month ago, and it’s all I’ve been wearing! It is the most beautiful color to wear in the summer (kind of a peach with a hint of pink and almost orange? I’m really bad at describing colors haha), and they’re a “cream”-to-powder finish. Ugh just get it! It’s so great!

Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed in Champagne Pop

I don’t even need to tell you that I love it. Everyone loves it, and for good reason. It is so complimentary to my skin and has the most GORGEOUS, glowing, shimmery finish on your cheekbones. Go to your local Sephora and just give it a swirl. You’ll fall in love, too!

Maybelline Color Tattoo in Barely Branded

I knew I needed a cream eyeshadow for wedding day because it is sooooo long-wearing and will stay just as beautiful at the end of the night as it was when I applied it. I chose the color Barely Branded because it’s a shimmery cream (color, not product), and it goes with any eyeshadow look I would’ve picked.

Makeup Geek Eyeshadows in Creme Brulee, In the Spotlight, and Cosmopolitan

You guys know that I looooooove my Makeup Geek shadows! I was going for a more strobed look on my eyes for the wedding, so of course I looked to my foiled eyeshadows! Love ’em!

Stila Stay All-Day Liquid Eyeliner

Again, SUCH a long-wearing item, super easy to apply, super black, and I love it. Not much explanation needed!

Tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes Mascara

I’ve used this so much that the writing has worn off! It’s a sample, but it gives volume and length, and it’s probably one of my favorite high-end mascaras! It can tend to get a little clumpy, so be careful.

NYX Tinted Brow Mascara in Espresso

I’m pretty new to doing brows because I was blessed with my dad’s bushy brows, but I picked this up on clearance, and it gives a little tint to the sparse areas in the front of my brows. It’s not super easy to use. You have to do some finagling to make sure it doesn’t get outside your brow frame, but it pretty much doesn’t leave where you place it, so it’s alright.

Aaaand for some reason I forgot to photograph my lip color? Don’t know, but I wore the Rimmel Show-Off Matte Velvet Lip Lacquer in Meteoric Matte! Perfect color to complement my sapphire dress!

There you have it! That’s what I wore on my brother’s wedding day! Have any recommendations for future posts? Leave a comment down below! What makeup would you wear for a bridesmaid look? Thanks for reading!

See you soon, lovelies! Keep strong, be kind, and stay beautiful! 🙂
